Clamshell Gate
The clamshell gate (also spelled clam-shell gate) is a heavy-dutyhopper discharge valve engineered for reliable bulk solids unloading in industrial processing systems. Widely known as a sector gate in global material handling industries, this dual-blade gate solves the common pain points of unstable feeding, material blocking, and short service life of traditional discharge equipment.
As a professional industrial clamshell gate valve solution, our clamshell gates and sector gates are specially designed for installation under silos, hoppers, bunkers, and dust collectors. It perfectly handles powdery, granular, and lump materials such as fly ash, cement clinker, limestone, aggregate, coal, and ore, delivering stable, quantitative, and safe material discharge for bulk material handling systems.
What Is a Clamshell Gate?
A clamshell gate is a dual-blade rotary discharge device exclusive for bulk solid materials, different from conventional pipeline gate valves. Its two symmetrical arc-shaped valve blades open and close like a clam shell, realizing full-bore discharge and tight sealing. Compared with single-structure industrial valves, the hopper clamshell gate features larger flow capacity, stronger wear resistance, and no material accumulation, making it the preferred discharge equipment for medium and large silo and hopper systems.

- Core Advantages of Clamshell Gates
- Product Specifications
- Industry Applications
-
Dual-Blade Synchronous Operation: The core structure of the clamshell gate adopts synchronous gear transmission, ensuring consistent opening and closing of double blades, uniform material discharge, and no material deviation or blockage. The optimized mechanical structure greatly improves the stability of continuous production.
-
Heavy-Duty Wear-Resistant Design: The valve body and blades are made of high-strength carbon steel or customized stainless steel, with anti-wear treatment on the contact surface. It adapts to long-term impact and friction of hard materials like ore and aggregate, extending the service life of the clamshell gate valve.
-
Diversified Driving Modes: Supports electric, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic, and manual driving options. Motorized clamshell gates realize automatic intelligent control, while pneumatic and hydraulic types adapt to high-frequency and heavy-load working conditions, meeting different on-site power and automation requirements.
-
Excellent Sealing & Locking Performance: Precision fit of arc blades achieves zero leakage when closed, effectively preventing dust overflow and material leakage. It maintains stable negative pressure inside dust collector systems and ensures a clean and environmentally friendly production environment.
-
Easy Installation & Low Maintenance: Compact integrated structure, convenient for direct installation at the bottom of silos and hoppers. Simple transmission components reduce daily maintenance costs and downtime, improving overall production efficiency.
-
Customizable Specifications: We provide customized caliber, material, and structural solutions for clamshell gates and sector gates according to customer working conditions, adapting to different material densities, discharge volumes, and installation spaces.

Working Principle of Clamshell Gate
A clamshell gate (also known as sector gate) is a gravity-adaptive rotary discharge valve designed exclusively for bulk solids. Different from linear sliding slide gates, it adopts curved fan-shaped blade structure. Driven by electric, pneumatic or hydraulic actuator, the blades rotate around fixed bearings to realize symmetrical opening and tight closing. When fully open, it provides 100% full-bore passage with no material bridging or residue; when fully closed, the curved blades fit tightly to cut off material flow and lock internal negative pressure, ensuring dust-tight operation for silos and dust collectors.

Dual-Blade Clamshell Gate (Duplex)
Equipped with two symmetrical arc blades and a synchronous gear transmission system, the dual blades open and close simultaneously like a clam shell. Officially named Duplex Clamshell Gate per international industrial standards, this model features balanced force distribution, large throughput, stable feeding, and excellent airtight sealing performance. As the mainstream hopper clamshell gate for overseas projects and heavy industrial supporting, it is widely applied in medium and large silo discharging, dust collector ash discharge, and high-volume bulk material handling scenarios.
Simplex Clamshell Gate
Featuring an integrated single fan-shaped rotary blade, this structure is compact, cost-effective, and easy to maintain, suitable for small-bore, low-flow, and conventional bulk material discharging working conditions. Its official international name is Simplex Clamshell Gate, commonly known as the Sector Gate in general industrial markets.
We provide full customized solutions for both Simplex and Duplex clamshell gates, supporting customized caliber, structure, and material upgrades for special working conditions.

What is the difference between a clamshell gate and a sector gate?
In the global industrial market, the two terms are highly interchangeable. Technically, dual-blade structures are mainly defined as clamshell gates, while single-blade rotary structures are called sector gates. Our products cover both structural types to meet diverse customer needs.
Is a clamshell gate valve suitable for dust collector ash discharge?
Absolutely yes. The hopper clamshell gate features tight sealing and flexible switching, which can effectively lock negative pressure inside the dust collector, prevent dust leakage, and realize stable automatic ash discharge, making it the ideal supporting valve for dust removal systems.
What driving mode should I choose for my clamshell gate?
Electric motorized types are recommended for conventional automatic production lines; electro-hydraulic types adapt to heavy-load and large-caliber working conditions; pneumatic types are suitable for explosion-proof and dust-free workshops. We provide targeted selection suggestions according to your on-site working conditions.
Are you a professional clamshell gate manufacturer?
Yes. We are a professional manufacturer and supplier of industrial clamshell gates, sector gates, and bulk material handling equipment. We support OEM & ODM customization, strict quality inspection, and global after-sales service, providing one-stop industrial discharge valve solutions.
